Armageddon eller Rubicon?

"I am sure the euro will oblige us to introduce a new set of economic policy instruments. It is politically impossible to propose that now. But some day there will be a crisis and new instruments will be created."

Romano Prodi, EU Commission President, FT 4 December 2001

Few people, least of all this newspaper, want either vast intervention in financial markets or a big shift of national sovereignty to Europe.

It is just that the alternatives are far worse.

The Economist editorial, Sept 17th 2011

Jag har inte vågar läsa ledaren ord för ord ännu.

Tänk om The Economist har givit upp.

Men varje meddelande om att motståndet skall uppges är falskt.

Winston Churchill, 1940:

We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be.
We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds.
We shall fight in the fields and in the streets.
We shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender.

All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in single words:

freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

Winston Churchill

Vi som inte vill vara kollaboratörer kämpar på, kort sagt.

Och vid närmare genomläsning kanske det visar sig att The Economist inte alls har givit upp.
